While business has generally been slow to adopt the self-aggrandising habits of Hollywood and the rappers, the last decade or so has seen an increasing number of companies in the B2B sector using hyperbole to promote essentially straightforward offers.

Aquent’s piece demonstrates the pitfalls of this approach. Even the most sympathetic reader would have to concede that something is amiss with the company’s rhetoric. For the psychiatrically literate, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual‘s handy definition of narcissistic personality disorder may spring to mind:

…significant impairments in personality functioning manifest by… excessive reference to others for self-definition and self-esteem regulation; exaggerated self-appraisal may be inflated or deflated, or vacillate between extremes…

Our rewrite is intended to calm things down while retaining whatever sense is to be gleaned from the original. We also offer a new slogan to replace that groansome ‘evolution/revolution’ sting outright. C’mon, guys…
